USG hosting an educational Spring Break Safety event

Kent State’s Undergraduate Student Government will be hosting an educational Spring Break Safety event on Tuesday, March 18 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Student Center. The event is co-sponsored by University Health Services and is free to all Kent State students.

There will be educational literature regarding general spring break health tips, drinking safety and sexual health. The goal of the event is to ensure that all students enjoy their spring break in “the safest way possible,” USG director of communications Natalie Moses said.

The event will also include health and safety-related “freebies,” a drawing for five free yoga mats and free HIV testing on site. Interactive displays will include an “Intoxiclock,” which calculates the timing effects of alcohol consumption based on height and weight and “beer goggles” to allow students to experience firsthand how alcohol impairs walking and basic activities.

Lauren Romick, the USG Director of Student Advancement, planned the event with students’ best interest in mind. “I want to do everything I can to ensure our students are safe while having a great time during spring break. I want our students to understand general, drinking and sexual health to prevent unwanted situations from happening.”
