What do you hope to accomplish while in office?

“I hope to get a broader understanding of the college and be the direct communication link between the department chairs and the dean with all the students in the College of Arts and Sciences.”

What specific responsibilities will you have?

“Once a month I would meet with the dean and once a semester I would meet with every department chair.”

Why are you running?

“I am running because I enjoy the College of Arts and Sciences. I enjoy my major and I would like to connect students with the leaders and share input and ideas with the student body of the College of Arts and Sciences.”

What previous experience do you have with student leadership?

“I was the scholarship chair in my fraternity for one semester and I was the Vice President of the Save Earth environmental club for a full year. I am currently the Director of Multiculturalism in Hall Council for Beall, McDowell and Van Campen.”

Why do you think you will be the best for the position?

“I think I’d be best for this position because I will implement new ideas such as a newsletter to send out once-a-month directly after I meet with the dean, should I be elected. That would inform all students of the on-goings and issues in the College of Arts and Sciences.”

Now that College Dems/Reps & PRIDE! aren’t endorsing any candidates, what will you do for endorsements?

“I was planning on self-endorsing. Mostly promotion through social media and flyers throughout campus.”

Kara Jenkins
Paralegal Studies major, sophomore

What do you hope to accomplish while in office?

“I really want to make USG more transparent, a lot of students don’t even know what USG is. I’m also really looking to bring free printing, both in color and black and white, to campus for students. I really want to meet more with the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences more often also.”

What specific responsibilities will you have?

“I’ll have to sit down and be available to students, and bring in students to get their ideas to help improve the college.”

Why are you running?

“I’ve always been interested in politics, I’m a paralegal studies major so I’ve always been interested. I also want to change USG, I want to make it better along with making myself better.”

What previous experience do you have with student leadership?

“I’m currently taking leadership workshops this semester and I’m also part of the advisory board for KREW. I also hold the community service chair in my sorority, Tri-Sigma.”

Why do you think you will be the best for the position?

“I think I’ll be the best because I have that leadership ability. My sorority helps me a lot on coordination and organization. I have tons of ideas and I’m a really creative person, I can help expand USG.”

Now that College Dems/Reps & PRIDE! aren’t endorsing any candidates, what will you do for endorsements?

“I don’t have many endorsements and a lot of people haven’t been looking to endorse. The two endorsements I do have are from Ahavat Israel and Young Americans for Liberty.”

Thomas Joseph
Chemistry major with a concentration in biochemistry, Sophomore

What do you hope to accomplish while in office?

“While I’m in office, my biggest goal is to create better communication between the student body and the College of Arts and Sciences. No one knows what’s going on. I want to create a better bridge of communication.”

What specific responsibilities will you have?

“Basically the Senator of the College of Arts and Sciences would meet with the dean once a month and discuss ideas that I would come up with or the student body would come up with. And then is USG meetings. And for my college specifically, we would come up with event ideas.”  

Why are you running?

“I am running because for one, I love my major and giving back to the community. I hold other leadership positions on campus. I feel that this is a way to better myself and also give back to the community in one way shape or form. I believe the best way to give back to the community in my position would be to voice their comments and concerns to the college as well as organize and execute large scale programs for the students in the College of Arts and Sciences.”

What previous experience do you have with student leadership?

“Last year I was involved in hall council at Olson Hall, KIC and then I was also in Provost Leadership Academy. The goal of Provost Leadership Academy is to identify a problem on campus and work with agencies on campus to resolve said problem. This year I am currently a resident assistant in Fletcher-Manchester.”

Why do you think you will be the best for the position?

“I think I’d be the best just because of my commitment to the major and to science itself. I love everything about it. And my leadership past experiences will help me with everything I do. And then for implementing things, Provost helped me. I’m one for getting things done.”

Now that College Dems/Reps & PRIDE! aren’t endorsing any candidates, what will you do for endorsements?

“I personally plan on going to many classes in the College of Arts and Sciences. I will contact the professor and then if they let me, talk to the class. I can’t get any formal endorsements because of my schedule, but they don’t get the message across. Whereas when I’m in a lecture hall, I think that spreads the word much better.”
