PRIDE! to host forum on sexual harassment, assault
Kent State’s PRIDE! organization will be hosting a sexual harassment and assault discussion today during its meeting. The meeting will be in room 317 in the Student Center at 9 p.m.
PRIDE! announced through their Facebook page that the discussion is necessary because, “Individuals within the LGBTQ community are at a high risk of suffering from assault or harassment at some point in their lifetime.”
The first half of the meeting will be a presentation from the Sexual Assault Response Team at Kent State. This presentation with go through the terminology of sexual assault as well as the resources available in our area.
PRIDE! president, Brandon Stephens said, “Talking about sexual harassment and sexual assault is always important, especially when dealing with the LGBTQ community.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in eight lesbian women and half of bisexual women have been or will be raped in their lifetime. Four in 10 gay men and nearly half of bisexual men have experienced some form of sexual violence. These are extremely important issues, especially since the LGBTQ community already has a number of factors working against it.”
The event is free to any student who wishes to attend.
