Zac’s Flick Pick: ‘The Muppet Movie’

With the recent release of “Muppets Most Wanted,” a fun but slightly lackluster Muppet adventure, it is high time to revisit the classic.

“The Muppet Movie” was released in 1979 and was nominated for Oscars for its superb songwriting and visual effects. For the first time we saw Kermit’s full body, riding a bicycle. Audiences were captivated by classic songs like “Movin’ Right Along” and “Rainbow Connection” as well as baffled by how real this film made the beloved felt characters.

While “Muppets Most Wanted” has recycled plot-lines and doesn’t quite hit its mark comedically, The Muppet Movie is sure to captivate adults and children, as the best film in the franchise.

Check out the recently released 35th Anniversary Blu Ray version if you want to hear Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem shred their catchy “Can You Picture That” in remastered audio and see cameos from Bob Hope, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Orson Welles and even Richard Pryor. Where else can you get entertainment as amazing as seeing all the glorious high-definition strands of hair in Orson Welles’ beard?
