Visual Communication Design to hold annual BFA showing

The School of Visual Communication Design will showcase the work of bachelor of fine arts seniors at its annual BFA portfolio showing.

The portfolios will be on display in the main gallery of the Art Building beginning Tuesday, April 8, at 6 p.m.

The gallery will house the work of 32 VCD seniors, their work varying from graphic design to digital media. Their portfolios will be on display all week in the gallery, which will be open to the public from 2 to 4 p.m.

David Middleton, associate professor in VCD, said he is excited about the showing that the school holds every April.

“The portfolios are just remarkably strong,” he said.

Middleton isn’t the only one enthusiastic about the showing, however. The seniors being showcased are just as excited to have friends, family, faculty and potential employers view the work they’ve done over the past four years.

Alex Catanese, one of the VCD seniors whose work will be on display, said he has been interested in “artistic endeavors” since high school and is excited to see his work displayed.

“As a senior in high school, I had a teacher who was a graphic designer, and he really got me interested in typography and different things like that,” Catanese said. “So when I came to Kent I guess it just made sense.”

Senior VCD major Gina LaRocca said that her hard work paid off as she looked at her own work and the work of her peers and encourages everyone to stop by the gallery.

“We started hanging up everyone’s work [on Monday] and we were just looking at everybody else’s portfolio, and it’s just so exciting to see the work that everyone has done,” LaRocca said. “It’s really, really great.”

There will be various awards given on Friday, April 11, for outstanding portfolios.
