Flashes take seventh in Aggie Invitational
The No. 30 ranked Kent State Men’s Golf team tied for 7th place in the Aggie Invitational amid inclement weather and constant showers.
The Flashes fought off tough conditions during the first day of the Invitational, sitting in fifth place, only 11 strokes behind leader LSU.
The team posted a 305 overall score for the first round high winds to blame before rebounding with a 297 score for the second round. Seniors Cory Conners and Taylor Pendrith led the windy first round for the team, both with three-over scores on the par-72 course.
The 73-stroke second round performance for Conners not only was a team best for that round, but for the whole Invitational. Conners finished in a six-way tie for 10th place on the individual leaderboard.
After two rounds, Kent was ahead of No. 3 California and just four strokes behind No. 2 Oklahoma State on the team leaderboard.
Sophomore Kody Fry joined Conners and Pendrith to each shooting a 76 for the final round of the Invitational. The round was Fry’s best, shooting 87 and 80 in the previous two rounds.
A drenched final round led the Flashes to shoot a 20-over-par score of 308 as a team. The extra 20 strokes pushed Kent State to a 46-over-par for the event, tied with San Diego State.
The Flashes will take to the Ohio State Scarlet Course April 12-13 for the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate.
