Case advances to NCAA National Championships

The Kent State gymnastics team finished fourth as a team at the NCAA Central Region in Baton Rouge, La., after posting an overall score of 195.125.

Senior Marie Case was named Central Region Co-Gymnast of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics/Women following the competition. Her all-around score of 39.275 was good for fifth in the competition and qualified her for advancement to the NCAA National Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

“What an incredible honor it is for Marie to be awarded with this [award],” said Kent State Head Coach Brice Biggin in an interview with Kentstatesports.com. “Having her tie with Rheagan Courville for the award is great, they are both great gymnasts as they both put on a great show today.”

It was yet another accolade for Case after a season full of them. She was also named Second Team All-America in the all=around and won her third MAC Gymnast of the Year award.

In addition to her fifth-place finish in the all-around, Case tied for fifth in the floor exercise with a score of 9.900 and finished 15th and 16th in the balance beam and vault respectively.

As a team, the Flashes wrapped up their season with a 17-8 overall record on the year. Case will compete in the NCAA National Championships in the all-around on April 18-20.
