The Kent State gymnastics team (2-0, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) won its second consecutive meet to start off the season in a 194.600-191.600 win at the University of Pittsburgh. 

Coach Brice Biggin said he was very proud of his team’s performance, but added that he already identified some things that can be improved through practice. 

“Once we settled in, we started doing well,” Biggin said. “Vault and floor were really good. Beam struggled with some falls, but they bounced back and did fine.”

On vault, freshman Kyndall Gilbert led the Flashes with a score of 9.775, which  tied for second place at the meet. Sophomore Rachel DeCavitch placed fifth with a score of 9.675. 

“Kyndall Gilbert is competing at a very high level, “ Biggin said. “Rachel DeCavitch was really steady today, she’s always consistent. Jade Brown performed really well, she had a solid floor routine.”

The Flashes had the top three spots on the floor event with a dominant showing by their floor rotation. 

Senior Abby Fletcher won her second straight individual floor title with a 9.900 score. Sophomore Karlie Franz finished in second place (9.875) and senior Jade Brown took third place (9.825). 

On beam, junior Cami Klein won the event title with a career-high score of 9.850. DeCavitch placed third with a 9.800 and junior Samantha Henry placed fourth with a 9.725. 

The Flashes will host Eastern Michigan in their next event on Jan. 31.
