Downtown Kent bridge closed for railroad construction

The Main St. bridge under construction on Thursday, June 19, 2014.

Beginning June 16, for the following 75 days, the Main St. bridge in downtown Kent will be closed for construction.

While the actual bridge will not be affected, the bride that houses the railroad tracks will be worked on.

“The box beam bridge over the railroad tracks in in bad shape and the beams need replaced,” Portage County Engineer Michael Marozzi said.

He said this is a pretty typical deterioration, and that a “contractor is going to remove the beams and superstructure and replace it.”

Traffic will be detoured via Ohio Route 43 or the Fairchild Bridge.
