Kent State University will hold its 18th annual Aviation Heritage Fair on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Kent State University airport.

The event will be held from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. The fair, which was originally called “Aviation Day,” will officially kick off with an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast buffet followed by a hot air balloon launch early in the morning. The event is planned as a day in which Kent State can celebrate and emphasize the rich heritage of aviation in Northeast Ohio.

Isaac Richmond Nettey serves as the associate dean of the College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology at Kent State University and said the Aviation Heritage Fair is a special Kent State event.

“Kent State Airport is one of the oldest airports in Summit County, so that is quite special indeed and aviation education at Kent State dates back to World War II and before then,” Nettey said. “So there is tremendous heritage where aviation is concerned and so the Aviation Heritage Fair essentially celebrates all of that.”

A scholarship provided by the Kiwanis Club of Stow-Munroe Falls will be given to an aeronautics student during the event. The Kiwanis Club will also help set up the pancake breakfast provided in the morning to raise money to support the scholarship.

Admission and parking is free and the fair will also hold airplane rides throughout the day. Food and beverages will also be provided to people in attendance during the fair as well.
