First Jewish Studies conference comes to Kent
The 26th Annual Midwest Jewish Studies Association Academic Conference will take place in Kent for the first time on Sept. 14-15.
The program will welcome 30 scholars and professionals from Turkey, Austria, Israel and North America.
Keynote speaker, Peter Geffen, will present his speech, “Heschel’s Spiritual Humanism: Jewish Education for the 21st Century.” Geffen will discuss his vision for contemporary Jewish education from key understandings of leading Jewish theologian, Abraham Joshua Heschel.
The speech will take place Sunday night in the McGilvrey Room at the Kent Hotel and Conference Center.
Chaya Kessler, director of Jewish Studies program, said the conference is open to the public.
Other presentations will take place at the Wick Poetry Center and Kent Hotel and Conference Center. The conference will close with an optional tour of the May 4th Visitor’s Center.
