Amber Vinson, the Kent State graduate and Dallas nurse who contracted the Ebola virus, released a statement after being discharged from Emory University Hospital on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

“I’m so grateful to be well, and first and foremost, I want to thank God,” Vinson said in the press release. “I sincerely believe that with God, all things are possible.”

She said she wanted to “publicly thank” her family for “supporting me and making sure I knew my family was there for me throughout my illness.”

Vinson also thanked the nurses and doctors who took care of her and treated her throughout her illness, including Kent Brantley, a doctor who also contracted the Ebola virus, and missionary Nancy Writebol, both who donated plasma to Vinson.

“As a nurse, and now as someone who has experienced what it’s like to be cared for through a life-threatening illness, I am so appreciative and grateful for your exceptional skill, warmth and care,” Vinson said in her statement.

Vinson requested privacy for herself and her family as they return home to Dallas and asked “that we not lose focus on the thousands of families who continue to labor under the burden of the disease in West Africa.”
