Kent State University will host the second annual water research symposium, Water Infrastructure and Rebounding Cities, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 31, at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Kent.

According to the symposium’s website, it will showcase “leading-edge research and innovative practices on water issues including the ecology of water, water policy, green design and urban infrastructure and stormwater management.”

Alison Smith, the chair of this year’s water research symposium planning committee, said water quality is something people have to face, especially because Ohio is on the coast of Lake Erie, which directly affects urban society. 

“Water problems are not going to go away,” Smith said. “The interesting aspect about Kent State is that we’re actually a hub for water-related research.”

Graduate students, undergraduate students and experts both inside and outside the university will be speaking at the event in addition to the keynote speaker David L. Sedlak, author of the best seller “Water 4.0: The Past, Present and Future of the World’s Most Vital Resource.”
