Making decisions in a group can be frustrating when members can’t agree. Today, I want to give you tips for working in a group and meeting your goals. Working with people in a group setting can be difficult, so hopefully this will help you succeed.

When working with others, one must have a lot of positive communication: Interaction where all members contribute and create a productive environment. Positive communication will improve openness and understanding among group members. This effective method of communication is essential when a group must formulate a master plan. It’s very beneficial for all group members make time for each other. Even if it’s a simple 30-second phone call, always stay in contact. Modern technology provides many ways for group members to stay connected through text, FaceTime, Skype, etc. When everyone understands what is going on, they feel connected.

Another tip is for group members to take on specific roles that play to their strengths. For example, a group member who has a “take charge” attitude might be considered the unofficial group leader. A group member who is good at math, might take on a role related to finance — everyone is good at something. Don’t be afraid to assign people to do certain tasks, and then have them stick with that task. Create an agenda in the beginning of the planning process and assign roles. This promotes organization, and helps the group understand who is doing what.

Along with knowing what tasks group members are in charge of, making a timeline keeps everyone on track. If a team plans to meet their deadline, forming and sticking with a timeline can help keep them on track. Designate personal deadlines for the completion of specific tasks. A written timeline will help keep group members organized on track. Encourage group members to work hard to meet their deadlines.

Working with a team and meeting goals requires hard work. Everyone has to contribute to get the job done. Be honest with group members and always try to stay positive. Keep the atmosphere driven, yet upbeat. You can tackle any obstacle you put your mind to. I hope these tips help you the next time you are in a group setting and need to meet a goal.
