Jewelry exhibit opens to celebrate 25 years

The American Jewelry Design Council is celebrating 25 years by featuring an exhibit, “Variations on a Theme: 25 Years of Design,” in the Kent State University Museum in the Alumni Gallery.

“We wanted to relate to the interests of the students in the jewelry and metals program in the School of Art,” said museum director Jean Druesedow.

The exhibit, which began Thursday, commemorates some of the different pieces featured in past exhibits from the American Jewelry Design Council.

“Each year, the organization decides on a theme, and then each member of the organization designs a piece based on that theme,” Druesedow said. “For this exhibit, they selected several pieces from each year they have had a themed exhibit, starting in 1996.”

There will be an opening reception Friday from 5-7 p.m. in the lobby of the museum. Eight of the 41 jewelers will be in attendance for a meet and greet and to discuss some of the pieces featured.

“Variations on a Theme: 25 Years of Design” will remain open until April 26, 2015.
