KSU men’s golf reeling at U.S Collegiate
The Kent State men’s golf team is in last place through round one of the U.S Collegiate in Alpharetta, Georgia.
The Flashes are 16-over-par and 32 strokes behind leader University of Virginia.
Kent State has been struggling as of late, coming off of a last place finish at the Bank of Tennessee tournament last week. Through round one, the Flashes do not have any individual players in the top 50 for the first time all season.
“We played terrible,” said Kent State coach Herb Page. “I have no excuses.”
Page said he was embarrassed by the performance of the Flashes. He said they didn’t execute and their confidence might be shaken after last week and the first round of this tournament.
“We are getting beaten pretty badly,” Page said. “It’s very frustrating, the players are very frustrated. I’m frustrated, and I can’t imagine what they’re feeling right now.”
The Flashes, as a team, struggled more in round one more than all season.
Freshman Ian Holt is tied for 55th place with a 3-over-par. Junior Sebastian Bendsen and freshman Chase Johnson both scored 4-over-part and are tied for 58th place. Sophomore Josh Whalen is tied for 67th place at a 5-over-par. Freshmen J.D. Hughes rounds out the lineup with a 7-over-par for 76th place.
The Flashes will look to bounce back on Saturday. Tee time is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
