Republican David Yost defeated Democrat John Patrick Carney and Libertarian Bob Bridges in the race to become auditor for the state of Ohio.

Yost was winning with 57 percent of the vote against Carney at 1:30 a.m., according to vote.ohio.gov. Carney had 38 percent of the vote.

As Auditor, Yost has a responsibility to plan and perform audits on all the public offices in the state of Ohio. This is important for students and Ohio citizens because his office has the ability to identify error or fraud that is being made using taxpayers money.

Yost graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and went on to earn his law degree from Capital University Law School. During his time at Capital University Law School, he held senior positions within the administrations of Columbus Mayor Buck Rinehart and Ohio Governor George Voinovich.

Before becoming the 32nd auditor in the state of Ohio, Yost was an auditor for the county of Delaware and in 2003 went on to become the Delaware County Prosecutor. Yost has served as auditor for the state of Ohio since 2011.
