The Kent State field hockey team punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament after winning the Mid-American Conference Championship.

The Flashes (10-10, 7-1 MAC) defeated Ohio University, 2-0, in the final game of the MAC Tournament, awarding them a guaranteed spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Up next for Kent State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament is the University of Delaware. The Blue Hens (13-8) will host Kent State on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fred P. Rullo Stadium. This is the Flashes’ eighth trip to the tournament in program history, their last being in 2010. Kent State field hockey coach Kathleen Wiler discussed the exciting atmosphere surrounding the team right now.

“We are excited and are going to keep attacking every opponent,” Wiler said. “This group wants to keep playing.”

The Flashes have been resilient all season long and will look to extend their season once again. The winner of Wednesday’s first-round game will advance to play No. 3 seed University of Connecticut on Saturday.

“I’m very proud of this team,” Wiler said. “We’ve stayed true to our focuses and have played Kent State field hockey.”
