Emma Stone is perfect. OK, she’s always perfect, but she’s even more perfect in “The Help.” Stone plays Skeeter, a 23-year-old who just finished college with a journalism degree from Ole Miss. She was the only one of her Jackson, Mississippi friends to go to college, so when she gets back and gets a job instead of a husband, she’s the outcast of the group. 

It’s the 1960s, and when Skeeter is assigned a cleaning and homemaker’s column for the local paper she asks her friends’ black maids for advice. What starts as a search for the solution to how one should cut an onion without tearing up turns into a book project. In the midst of the Civil Rights Movement, Skeeter decides the maids, dubbed “the help,” should get to tell their side of the story. While the white women who hire them are signing petitions to keep the colored help out of their private bathrooms, the maids are raising their children and cooking for dinner parties they’re not invited to. Skeeter collects the maids’ stories and publishes them in an anonymous book that stirs up trouble in her hometown. 

It’s a heartwarming story that will make you laugh, cry and feel all the feels.
