Therapy dogs return for finals week at library’s ‘Stress-Free Zone’

Just in time for finals, therapy dogs will visit University Libraries’ Stress-Free Zone events Monday, Dec. 8 and Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 3-5 p.m. on the first floor lobby of the main library.

The Stress-Free Zones include free popcorn and beverages for students who attend, along with a chance to play with therapy dogs.

“I can say the importance of the event is to give students a chance to relax during a very stressful time,” said Ken Burhanna, assistant dean of University Libraries. “We want to let them know the library is thinking of them and cares about their success.”

The addition of therapy dogs in the Stress-Free Zone started about four years ago, said Jasmine Jefferson, First-Year Experience librarian. The purpose of the dogs is to give students a break to play with a friendly animal, taking their mind off of their studies.

“I hope the students will be rejuvenated and able to return to their studies with a clear head and open mind so they can do their best on their upcoming exams,” Jefferson said.

The Stress-Free Zones are open to all Kent State students, faculty and staff.
