Kent State field hockey player Hannah Faulkner earned All-American honors Monday after being named to the 2014 Longstretch/NFHCA Division I Third Team.

The dynamic senior forward had a season for the record books in her last stint with the Flashes. Faulkner racked up 20 goals and eight assists during her final season in a Kent State uniform. The numbers Faulkner put up ranked her in the top ten in the nation for both goals per game and points per game.

Faulkner also finished the season as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, first-team All-MAC, first-team All-Region and a participant in the NFHCA Senior Game.

“My goal going in to the season was never any of these awards,” Faulkner said. “For my senior season the goal I had was to focus on each day at hand and to make it the best day it could be and to absorb the presence of my field hockey sisters.”

Faulkner helped lead the Flashes to an NCAA Tournament appearance this season, attaining the program’s first ever NCAA Tournament win.

Kent State’s season came to an end shortly thereafter, as the team lost to the University of Connecticut. UConn would go on to win its second consecutive national championship.

A two-time Academic All-MAC recipient, Faulkner reflected on an illustrious career to remember.

“Being an All-American is an awesome feeling especially ending my career like this, but the thing I learned the most is that doing what you love, having fun while you do it and working hard brings success,” Faulkner said.

Faulkner is the 10th All-American from Kent State, according to kentstatesports.com.
