Gymnastics topple Western Michigan, secures first win

Maybe the win wasn’t by the widest margin in the world. Maybe the team didn’t blow the Western Michigan Broncos out of the water Friday night in the M.A.C. Center. Maybe the Flashes’ season hasn’t gone exactly how they anticipated after winning the Mid-American Conference in 2014.

But maybe none of that mattered, as Kent State (1-3, 1-1 MAC) defeated the Broncos 194.900-193.325 to earn its first win of the season.

Coach Brice Biggin was not available for comment following the victory.

Freshman Rachel Stypinski showed promise in the contest, winning both the beam and floor events with scores of 9.875.

With a 9.800 score, junior Rebecca Osmer led the field in the uneven bars category. A variety of other competitors trailed closely behind with second and third-place finishes.

The Flashes host University of Pittsburgh on Friday in their third annual Beauty and the Beast meet.
