Women’s basketball drops close road contest
Kent State dropped a nail bitter Wednesday night on the road against Central Michigan, 63-65.
The Flashes battled hard all game long. The team took a nine-point deficit into halftime, 25-36. Despite the deficit, the team fought their way back into the game, and even came within one point of tying the game up with 49 seconds remaining.
“We played great tonight,” coach Danielle O’Banion said. “We executed well tonight and did a good job of sticking to our game plan.”
The team was once again plagued by turnovers, committing 18 in the game.
The Flashes did manage to catch fire from behind the three-point line Wednesday, shooting 44 percent. Sophomore Larissa Lurken led the team in scoring, as she paced the team with 18. Freshmen Jordan Korinek and Naddiyah Cross had major contributions as well. Korinek poured in 16 and Cross had 10 points and dished out a team-high eight assists.
Kent State (3-14, 1-5 Mid-American Conference) will now turn its focus to its bitter in-state rival, Akron (15-4, 5-3 MAC) when they travel to take on the Zips this Saturday at 2 p.m.
O’Banion said despite the loss, there are still a few positive things to take away from the game and carry over into Saturday’s contest.
“We did a good job of executing the game plan and sharing the ball around, making sure everyone got touches,” O’Banion said. “We need to have the same fight and resiliency that we showed tonight.”
