Utility work shuts down South Lincoln Street lane

South Lincoln Street was reduced to one lane of traffic Wednesday and will continue to operate with traffic flaggers until Thursday.

The city of Kent is collaborating with Kent State to remove water and sanitary services between three to five demolished buildings, said Jim Bowling, Kent’s city engineer.

Bowling said the utility work is standard, and as long as there are no delays, the contractors believe the work will be finished between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday.

The work is not related to the closure of Willow Street, which is scheduled for the beginning of February as part of the new College of Architecture building’s construction.

On the west side of Willow Street, the city will be removing similar water and sanitary services and will add geothermal wells.
