Alpha Phi will be hosting their biggest philanthropy of the year Feb. 7 in the Student Center Ballroom from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Every year the sorority raises money for women’s heart health and cardiac care awareness known as “Red Week” by hosting its annual Red Dress Gala.

Alpha Phi expects their tenth annual gala to be the largest one yet.

Red Week starts on Wednesday with “Move Your Phi’t,” a heart healthy exercise training class in the ballroom. On Friday, their “King of Hearts” event takes place involving a pageant competition between 16 fraternity brothers to see who has the best talent and knows the most about heart health. All these events lead up to the Red Dress Gala on Saturday.

Megan Gustoff, Alpha Phi’s Red Gala chairman said that around 540 tickets were sold for the gala, so they had to expand the event onto the balcony as well as the ballroom.

“We don’t want to just people to come for their donations, but to inform and educate them on heart disease,” Gustoff said.

The Red Dress Gala will have a four-course dinner, live entertainment and a silent auction for guests. The ladies of Alpha Phi and some fraternity brothers will also put on a fashion show featuring Banana Republic and designs by Alpha Phi’s very own sister Kalli Sternberg.

Last year, they were able to raise over $31,000. This year their goal is to raise $37,000.

“Alpha Phi is like family and we want our guests to feel welcomed and part of our family too,” Gustoff said.
