Ohio investigates internal matters involving township police
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is investigating internal matters at a small police department where a popular police chief resigned while facing accusations of gender discrimination and bullying.
A spokeswoman for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation says she can’t discuss details of the ongoing investigation in Brimfield Township, near Kent.
The police department’s Facebook page became one of the most-liked local law enforcement pages in the country thanks to blunt, humorous commentary from the chief, David Oliver. He resigned in mid-January, saying that untrue allegations circulated, his management style was used against him and he was suffering panic attacks.
Trustees appointed an acting police chief, who requested a Portage County sheriff’s investigation. The sheriff has asked the state to handle it, citing a conflict of interest involving a former employee.
