After 33 years, now former Kent State University chief of police John Peach turned over the position to Dean Tondiglia, who was sworn in Monday Feb. 6.

Tondiglia served as the assistant chief of police and associate director of public safety before he was appointed. Along with his new title, he maintains his position as associate director of public safety.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Kent State Police Department and consider myself fortunate to be working with such an outstanding and professional staff that is committed to providing the university community with the best law enforcement services possible,” Tondiglia said in a university press release.

Tondiglia became a part of Kent in 1981 and since then has ascended through the ranks in the police department. He has held many different positions in his years of service including patrol sergeant and investigations lieutenant.

He was promoted to assistant police chief and associate director of public safety in 2000 and was responsible for the Police and Auxiliary Operations Unit during this time. Tondiglia also managed all the areas of the department and served as the operations commander, accreditation manager and budget officer during his tenure.

John Peach, former chief of police, served as chief of police for 33 years and has been with the university for 45 years. He will continue his role as director of public safety as he steps down from chief of police.
