Delta Zeta will host its fifth annual Lip Sync to raise awareness for speech and hearing impaired.

Twenty-three sororities and fraternities will participate in the event Saturday in the Student Center Ballroom to help raise money for the Delta Zeta Foundation.

The Delta Zeta Foundation raises money for three different organizations: the Starkey Hearing Foundation, Gallaudet University and the Painted Turtle Camp. Last year, they were able to raise $44,000, and this year their goal is $50,000.

Taylor Ridenour, Lip Sync chairman, said this year Delta Zeta tried to build more of a community when fundraising.

“We wanted to focus more on what we are raising money for,” Ridenour said. “We incorporated more of our events with the speech and hearing impaired community.”

Other fundraising events that Delta Zeta hosted included an ice skating party, two American Sign Language workshops and a fashion show.

At the event on Saturday, each fraternity and sorority will present a four-to six minute skit that incorporates Delta Zeta facts and information about the speech and hearing-impaired community.

“It is a friendly competition between the chapters and everyone always enjoys it,” Ridenour said. “We always try to aim higher and beat our goal every year.”
