Chainsmokers announced as Flashfest headliner
The duo that popularized “Let me take a selfie” will headline Kent State’s Flashfest on April 23 at 7 p.m.
Kent State’s Undergraduate Student Government announced via its Twitter account on Monday that DJ duo The Chainsmokers will be this year’s main performance at the free, end of the year concert on Kent State’s Student Green in front of the Student Center. R&B singer Jeremih and hip-hop pair Rae Sremmurd will also perform. Flashfest festivities will kick off at 4 p.m., and musical entertainment will start at 7 p.m.
Alex Pall & Drew Taggart, the electronic dance music DJs behind The Chainsmokers synth beats, mix indie, progressive and pop music sounds to form their distinct sound, according to the band’s website.
Their music has topped the Beatport charts and their remixes that have been in the top 10 on the Hype Machine’s music charts.
Chicago-native Jeremih uses his smooth vocals combined with his hip-hop rhythms in his songs and “Don’t Tell ‘Em” and “Birthday Sex.”
Slim Jimmy and Swae Lee, the brothers of Rae Sremmurd, have left their mark on hip-hop music, with rhymes on tracks by Nicki Minaj and and Big Sean. Their single “No Flex Zone” serves as an early taste of what the duo has planned for their debut mixtape, SremmLife, used as a hashtag to dictate the band’s entertaining performance.
“It’s the energy, that’s what #SremmLife is all about,” Lee said on the band’s website. “We bringing the fun back to music!”
