Kent State drops weekday home game versus Penn State
In possibly the worst defensive performance of the year, the Flashes were demolished by Penn State on Tuesday evening, 15-5.
The team committed three errors on defense and only managed six hits in the loss.
Senior pitcher John Birkbeck took the loss (0-2), giving up five earned runs on the evening. Birkbeck didn’t record an out before being pulled in the first inning of the game. Penn State put up nine runs in the first inning, three runs coming off doubles and one off a throwing error.
The damage was done before Kent State was able to bat.
Sophomores Conner Simonetti and Curtis Olvey both recorded two RBI on the evening. Olvey went 3-3 at the plate on the day.
Junior Zarley Zalewski had the team’s other RBI.
Kent State drops to 21-16 on the season with a 9-6 Mid-American Conference record and will look to bounce back against Miami University for a weekend series starting Friday in Oxford.
