Brief: School of Visual Communication Design to host BFA Senior Show 2015
The School of Visual Communication Design will host its annual BFA Senior Show in the Main Art Gallery of the Art Building on April 7 to 10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The show, entitled Finding Alignment, features portfolio work from 33 VCD majors, including 2-D and 3-D graphic designs. Alignment, a basic design principle, inspired the show’s theme this year, senior VCD major Kerry Butler said.
“It’s kind of speaking to how everyone within the senior class this year has found alignment in one way or another, and we all kind of align on the principles of design,” Butler said.
Area businesses and professionals will visit on the last day of the exhibition to review students’ portfolios and resumes, said Sanda Katila, The School of Visual Comunication’s Interim Director.
“It’s a very important event for us, with respect to hiring practices,” Katila said. “Also, it works the other way as well. It’s an opportunity for students to meet prospective employers.”
A public reception and awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. following the networking event.
VCD program founder j.Charles Walker and John Brett Buchanan, the first creative director of Glyphix, the student-run design studio within the school located in Dwntown Kent, will present the first Walker-Buchanan scholarship award. The scholarship will be given to the student who wins best of show, Katila said.
“I couldn’t be more excited to showcase what I’ve been doing at Kent State over the past year,” Butler said.
