The office of Global Education hosts its annual Education Abroad Expo Thursday, Sept. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Student Center.

The expo offers insight about the various study abroad opportunities at Kent State. There will be representatives from the numerous colleges around campus and financial aid to educate and recruit.

“The reason (of having the expo) is to essentially make ourselves more visible in the heart of (the) campus and have a way to show all the options at once,” said Elizabeth Davis, Education Abroad adviser.

Studying abroad is essential in a college student’s career, Davis said.

“I think about the world today and how it’s very globalized and everything is very interconnected with businesses,” Davis said. “I believe, in order to function successfully in the world, (students) need to have these international experiences.”

An initial thought of studying abroad is the cost. Going to another country can be very expensive, but Davis said college programs can help lower the price.

“We have a listing of scholarship resources from different departments on campus or organizations,” Davis said. “We also have programs that are pretty affordable. We design programs to be more cost-effective… for students.”

Davis said after the expo, the Office of Global Education sends out emails inviting students to come to the walk-in advising.

“We have a sharp increase of the appointments,”  Davis said. “We’re pretty busy for the next week of advising.”
