The flapper-style fashion is making a comeback at Kent State University Fashion Museum in its newest exhibit titled “Flapper Style: Fashions of the 1920s” opening Sept. 25.

Forty different pieces, including dresses, sportswear, shoes, hats and textiles will be on display. The collection of items, all of which are donated, will also feature a very special piece — a gym suit from the 1920s that belonged to Alice Elgin, a Kent State University student from 1925-1929.

The curator of the exhibit, Sara Hume, said many unexpected pieces, such as swimwear, are included in the collection, as well as the stereotypical flapper-style beaded dress.

“The 1920s are very much in pop-culture right now, with Downton Abbey and the Great Gatsby. We thought people would really respond to this style,” said Hume.

The exhibit will run until Sept. 4, 2016 with a free lecture on the collection provided by Hume Oct. 3.
