The Graduate Professional and Academic Development (GPAD) will start a free workshop for graduate students Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 in room 310C of the Kent Student Center.

Multiple workshops will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. to encourage the students to achieve their goals.

Kate McAnulty, the assistant dean of graduate studies who is running the event, is expecting a full workshop.

“We hope that the GPAD workshops are a platform for interdisciplinary professional development for graduate students, on topics ranging from research, teaching, career services and technology,” McAnulty said.

The workshops are facilitated by university faculty, administrators and teaching fellows. They will include topics such as technology tools, searching for grant funding, writing a literature review and negotiating a job salary or offer.

This semester, a GPAD certificate of participation, which can be added to a CV or resume, will be awarded to students who attend at least three workshops during the semester.

The workshops are a collaborative initiative between the Division of Graduate Students and other campus units including University Libraries, Research and Sponsored Programs, Information Services, the Multicultural Center and the Career Services Center.

These GPAD workshops run a one-week block during fall and spring semesters with several GPAD workshops offered as part of Graduate Student Orientation (GSO,) prior to the start of fall and spring semesters. 

McAnulty said she encourages students to benefit from the workshops.

“We want graduate students to know of and take advantage of these free and valuable resources,” McAnulty said.
