The Safe Spaces speaker series will host its next event, Why It Is Not All Lives Matter, Black Lives Matter in the Past and Future, this Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The speakers will be Austin McCoy, a Kent State graduate and an activist who has been involved with the Black Lives Matter movement in Baltimore and Ferguson. The second speaker will be DaMareo Cooper, Kent State graduate and organizer for Ohio Organizing Collaborative.

Event organizer and associate professor Joshua Stacher explained the purpose of the Safe Spaces events are to provide “a space to hear the communities affected (by an issue).”

“They purposely don’t side with the majority because these minorities don’t normally get this platform,” Stacher said. 

The event is open to the public and will be held in Michael Schwartz Center, room 177. A recording of the event will also be posted on the Safe Spaces’ Facebook account.
