Kent State women’s basketball won its second game of the season behind the strong play of sophomore forward Jordan Korinek and junior guard Chelsi Watson. The Flashes (2-3) knocked off the (2-2) Malone Pioneers 73-59 Saturday.

Kent State struggles from behind the arc continues as they were only 21.4 percent from deep. Despite shooting poorly from deep, the Flashes did shoot exceptionally well from everywhere else, shooting 48 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free-throw line.

Jordan Korinek—who set her career high in scoring in the team’s previous game against Minnesota with 22 points and seven rebounds—set a new career high against the Pioneers with 28 points and eight rebounds. 

She was a little disappointed that the team was unable to close out the game against Minnesota in the last stretch of the fourth quarter. She made a statement by leading her team to victory in Saturday’s game.

Watson followed Korinek’s performance with 18 points, going 9-10. Watson’s efficient scoring is exactly what coach Danielle O’Banion would like to see from the backcourt from here on out.

The Flashes outscored the Pioneers by 22 points in the paint. This dominance in the paint, along with leading the game in rebounds, can be contributed to the Flashes’ victory. 

The third of the four-game home stand for the Flashes will be Wednesday, as the Cleveland State Vikings will make the trip to the M.A.C. Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
