The individual efforts of redshirt junior forward Jimmy Hall and redshirt senior guard Xavier Pollard were not enough as Kent State men’s basketball (3-2) fell to Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent Pittsburgh (4-0), 85-76.

The two combined for 44 points (Hall with 21 points and seven rebounds, and Pollard with 23 points).

“We talked about how we have to out-Pitt Pittsburgh, a team that is one of the most physical teams you’ll find,” coach Rob Senderoff said. “Pitt just shot the lights out.”

The Panthers shot 10-of-16 from the three-point line and led by as many as 17 points in the second half. The Flashes were able to pull within seven points in the final two minutes but were unable to overcome the shooting displayed by Pitt.

Junior forward Michael Young led the Panthers with 23 points and six assists, junior forward Jamel Artis at 19 points and senior guard James Robinson tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists with no turnovers.

The Flashes are in the midst of a three-game road trip with its second game at Cleveland State University Dec. 5. Tip-off is at 3 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena.
