Bricco Kent approved for Sunday liquor sales

A dining room of guests enjoy Italian-style meals, Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Bricco downtown just 13 days after the restaurant’s initial opening.

With a variety of beer, wine and other drinks on regular nights, Bricco Kent can now extend their full menu of drink options to Sunday for customers.

As the polls closed, the results from the local Portage County elections eventually came in. With 100 percent of precincts reporting and a total of 130 votes, 78 percent voted ‘Yes’ on issue 36 for a D-6 permit, meaning Bricco Kent is now able to serve liquor on Sundays.

Twenty-eight voters, or 21 percent, voted ‘No’ for the issue. Had the issue been rejected, Bricco Kent, located at 210 S. Depeyster St., would still be able to sell just wine and beer on Sundays.

The allowance of a D-6 permit essentially means a business is able to sell intoxicating liquor on Sundays between either 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. to midnight.

Once a business requests a permit with the Liquor Control Division in the Ohio Department of Commerce, the request has to be put on a local ballot as an issue to be approved by precinct voters in the next election.
