You either love or hate Donald Trump. It is hard to be indifferent toward such an extremist politician. Yes, not businessman or CEO, but politician. The day Trump announced he was running, referring to him as anything but presidential candidate became a mistake. His candidacy is for real and his popularity between potential voters is, too.

If the Republican primaries happened today, Trump would win and go on to compete against the likes of Hillary Clinton or maybe Bernie Sanders. Some polls and researchers predict he would be the favorite to become the next president of the United States. That would be a disaster, not only for this country, but for the world. Here are five reasons why:

1.  He has no experience as a politician

Over the past few decades, the only thing tying Trump to politics were his constant comments about running for certain positions and support of politicians and programs that, not surprisingly, benefited him somehow. Apart from that, Trump has not made any concrete contributions to U.S. politics and did not hold any positions that would justify his aspiration to lead this country.

2.  His lack of knowledge about current issues is alarming

Ben Carson does not have much experience in politics either. The neurosurgeon has proven, however, that he can debate at a high level with those who have been working with politics for years. Unlike his fellow Republican candidate, Trump has shown little to no knowledge on some of the most basic current issues being discussed. When asked about the Iran Nuclear Deal, for example, he quickly changed the subject to North Korea.

3.  He denies basic science and visible proof

Trump has said global warming is “a total hoax,” created by the Chinese. He has also stated that “windmills are destroying every country they touch” while creating “unreliable and terrible energy.” I am not sure what he means by “terrible energy,” but what I do know is that renewable energy has been proven to be the key aspect for a sustainable society.

4.  He has no sensitivity

Every time something major happens, Trump finds a way to either make it about himself or to politicize the topic. When several Charlie Hebdo employees were killed in Paris last year, Trump tweeted that he found ironic how “the tragedy took place in one of the toughest gun control countries in the world.” When more than 100 people were murdered in Paris, he tweeted “They laughed at me when I said to bomb the ISIS controlled oil fields. Now they are not laughing and doing what I said.”

5.  His policies are too extreme and cannot be funded

Trump has made a name for himself as a presidential candidate through the use of extremist remarks. This ideology is reflected in his policies, which are very expensive and even if supported by congress, impossible to be funded. An example is his policy toward illegal immigrants in the United States.

According to his campaign, if elected he will send the 11 million illegal immigrants that live here back to their countries and then build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico. It would not only cost way too much to send millions of people away and build a gigantic wall, but also it would profoundly hurt the economy as the vast majority of these immigrants are currently employed.
