Despite a big win against Northern Illinois the other night, Kent State (4-13, 1-8 Mid-American Conference) dropped another game to the Western Michigan Broncos (13-8, 5-4 MAC). It was a poor performance in the third quarter by the Flashes that the Broncos capitalized on and put the game out of reach for the Flashes.

For most of the game it was a back and forth contest with neither team being able to take momentum from one another. The team as a whole shot an outstanding 61.5 percent from the field.

At the end of the second quarter the Flashes went into the locker room with a small 31-29 lead over the Broncos, but after the buzzer sounded the start of the third quarter it was all Bronco basketball from there. Starting the half hot, Western Michigan went on a 5-0 run. This gave the Broncos a 33-31 lead, their first since 4:26 in the first quarter. Western Michigan outscored the Flashes 16-8 in the third and 37-22 in the second half.

The Broncos biggest lead of the day came in the fourth quarter when they went up by 17. The deficit just proved to be too much to overcome as the Broncos would go on to win 65-53.

Sophomore Jordan Korinek led the Flashes with 18 points. Junior Larissa Lurken, who is coming off a record performing 37-point game, added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Freshman Meredith Shipman led Western Michigan with a game high 19 led them. Three of her other teammates also scored in double digits.

The Flashes next game comes Wednesday when they travel to Miami of Ohio at 7 p.m.
