Tolbert, Figueroa have historic days at Doug Raymond Invitational

Representing Kent State men’s track and field team, senior Donovan Tolbert broke a triple-jump school record Saturday with a 16.08-meter leap at the Doug Raymond Invitational, surpassing a top mark that stood for 28 years.

Overall the Flashes won seven events in the meet, four of which came in field events and three others in the oval.

Tolbert, along with senior Jesse Oxley, senior Reggie Jagers and junior Danny Young, each placed first in their respective events. Oxley won the pole vault, 4.90 meters, Jagers won the weight throw at 19.94 meters and Young won the long jump at 16.08 meters.

On the track, freshman Brandon Harris took first place in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best of 6.80 seconds. Juniors Matt Tobin, 22.02 seconds in the 200-meter dash, and Young, 49.91 seconds in the 400-meter competition, took home first place finishes as well.

On the women’s side, sophomore Gabrielle Figueroa took home first place in the weight throw with a 20.39-meter toss passing Lauren Noe (19.79 meters, 2012) for third all-time in school history.

Junior Rebecca Leppelmeier recorded personal-best in the shot put at 14.45 meters and weight throw at 16.94 meters.

On the track, senior Taylor Farquhar recorded a time of 55.60 seconds in the 400-meter run, placing her ninth all-time in school history. Sophomore Morgan Bing took first place in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:31.39 seconds.

The Flashes will return to action in the Kent State Akron Dual in the Fieldhouse on Friday.
