Ryan seeks eighth term in House
Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH), 43, is running for his eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 13th District of Ohio.
Also on the primary ballot for the Democrats is John Stephen Luchansky, 63, of Youngstown, Ohio, who also ran for the seat in 2014. He is a graduate of Wilmington College. On the issue of immigration, Luchansky told the League of Women Voters of Kent and Northern Portage County that anyone who wants to enter the United States should be allowed to do so. He also said he would work to fine tune the Affordable Care Act in the belief that every American should have health coverage.
The sole candidate on the Republican ballot is Richard A. Morckel of Akron.
Ryan is currently a member of the House Appropriations Committee, which sets the state’s annual budget resolution. He is also on the House Budget Committee and is a co-chairman of the House Manufacturing Caucus. He believes the federal government should help ensure “all Americans have access to affordable health care — and affordable health care insurance coverage.”
As for immigration, Ryan said “our country’s immigration system is broken” and advocates for the passage of bipartisan, comprehensive legislation to “secure our borders, protect our workers, and provide for an earned path to citizenship.
