Flashes take lead after second round
The Flashes took the lead at the 2016 Mid-American Conference championships in Noblesville, Indiana yesterday posting a score of three-over par with a three stroke lead. Junior Wad Phaewchimplee shot four-under for the day leading the team.
“We played solid today,” coach Greg Robertson said, “and finished with quite a few birdies on the back nine. Tomorrow we need to play aggressive from the start and pick up from where we left off.”
The team totaled 18 birdies for the day and one eagle (two under par) from senior Josee Doyon on the 18th hole. Phaewchimplee scored a championship record of four under par in her second round. She is also in fourth place individually with a score of one under.
Each team member is in the top ten in the individual rankings. Doyon is in seventh place after finishing her second round one over. Senior Amira Alexander and freshman Michaela Finn are tied for eighth. Senior Taylor Kim is in a tie for tenth with three over overall.
The Flashes took the lead from the Toledo Rockets and are ahead by three strokes.
“Toledo is a very good team,” Robertson said. “They know how to win and are playing well right now. It should be an exciting final round. This is the kind of stuff you prepare all year for.”
The Flashes look to win their 18th consecutive MAC championship. Tee-off is at 10:30 a.m. and they will be paired with Toledo and Ohio University.
