Flashes finish seventh in Columbus

The Kent State men’s golf team is tied for fifth after their first round of the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate tournament. Sophomore Chase Johnson is tied for ninth individually.

Johnson leads the team, ending his first round two-over-par with fellow sophomore Ian Holt three strokes over.

Freshman Gisli Sveinbergsson finished his day four over par. Junior Josh Whalen and senior Sebastian Bendsen finished six-over-par.

The Kepler Intercollegiate was originally scheduled as a 54-hole tournament, but inclement weather caused delays in play. It was reduced to 36 holes.

Day 2

The Flashes tied for seventh at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Sunday with two players finishing in the top ten.

Sophomore Chase Johnson tied for seventh and sophomore Ian Holt placed tenth to lead the team through the weekend. The team faced cold and windy conditions compared to the blizzard-like weather Saturday.

Freshman Gisli Sveinbergsson finished the weekend eight over.  Junior Josh Whalen shot 15 over par, and Senio Sebastian Bendsen ended the tournament 19 over. 

The Flashes will play their next tournament, the Boilermaker Invitation in Lafayette, Indiana April 16-17.
