Former Kent State baseball player Eric Lauer was recently named the 2016 Pitcher of the Year by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame. 

Lauer, who was selected 25th in the MLB draft last month by the San Diego Padres, posted a nations best 0.69 ERA with a 10-2 record during his junior season. 

He became the seven player from Kent State to be chosen in the first round of the draft, as well as the first since 2011.

Lauer was previously named Collegiate Baseball’s national player of the year, and earned First Team All-American honors.

He was honored as a Second Team Academic All-American, the highest in Kent State baseball history.
