Kent State’s eighth president, Brage Golding, passed away at his home in California on Aug. 24. 

“On behalf of the Kent State University worldwide community, I express sympathy to the family and friends of President Emeritus Golding,” President Beverly Warren said in a Sept. 27 press release. “Our university owes a debt of gratitude for his leadership and dedication to our core mission of graduating students to lead productive lives.” 

As university president from 1977 until 1982, Golding established the Kent State University Museum, as well as the now nationally-recognized Fashion School.

Golding received a Bachelor of Arts and doctorate in chemical engineering, and served in the military during World War II.

A namesake for Golding lives on through a scholarship given to fashion students each year.
