Sanders to rally at Kent State Saturday

Junior U.S. Senator from Vermont and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders speaks to supporters at Baldwin Wallace University on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will visit Kent State Saturday to encourage Millennials to vote for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Sanders, who ran against Clinton in the primaries, is set to lay out the stakes of the election for Millennial voters, according to the Clinton campaign.

He will emphasize the Democratic nominee’s plans to allow students to attend college debt-free and community college for free, as well as plans for protecting access to health care, reforming the nation’s immigration system, raising the minimum wage and fighting climate change.

Sanders’ visit follows the release of a report analyzing Clinton’s “New College Compact” college plan earlier this week.

Under the plan, 150,000 college students in Ohio would not have to pay tuition to pursue a four-year degree.

The rally at Kent State will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on Ted Boyd Drive. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Sanders is also scheduled to make stops in the Akron and Canton areas later in the day.
