Kent State’s Office of the University Architect has decided to renovate Taylor Hall in November. Most classes and offices located in the building have been closed and relocated elsewhere. The May 4 Visitors Center will be kept open until October.

“We were getting ready to go out for bid, we issued it for public bid on Monday,” said Michael Bruder, executive director of Facilities Planning and Design.

Due to the renovations, classes in the School of Communication Studies and the School of Visual Communication Design have been relocated to the art building.

Some students have expressed disdain in regards to the location change. 

“It would not be my first choice of this building,” said Meghan Caprez, a graduate student in communication studies.

The fall semester will be a challenging time for Bruder and his department because of the ongoing projects. 

“It is difficult to get the work done outside of the normal working hours,” he said. “We are trying to keep work processing, minimizing the disruption and ensure student safety.”

However, student show their patience and believe the construction projects will not affect their learning.

“Our professors and students are so focused, we love what we do, even though the building is a little different,” said Caprez. “When Taylor Hall will be done, it will be so gorgeous, so the move is definitely an advantage for us.”
