Delta Zeta takes a Hike for Hearing

Kent State’s Delta Zeta’s philanthropy Hike for Hearing will take place this Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Towner’s Woods. Proceeds will go to the speech and hearing impaired community.

Hike for Hearing is one of several philanthropy events DZ puts on every fall semester.

There hike will include two different trails: Trick-Or-Treat Trail and Fright Hike. Both of these are supposed to be fun for children, as well as students.

There will be a trail leading up to DZ’s photo booth and different activities around the trails. In addition, face painting and pumpkin painting, along with family friendly activities will be offered. Admission comes with a snack voucher.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children ages three to 12, and $3 for children two years of age and younger. All admission proceeds will go toward DZ’s overall fundraising total.

“We raised around $4,000 last year. Ideally we hope to raise more than that, but decided to not put a value on it because we really just want to focus on the sentimental value of why we’re there and we feel as if the rest will fall into place,” said Kalie Rogers, a junior psychology major and vice president of DZ.

All money raised will go to The Starkey Hearing Foundation and Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. The Starkey Hearing Foundation gives hearing aides to those in need.

“The fact that the Greek community gets to personally help touch so many lives for the better is such an amazing thing, in my opinion,” Rogers said. “Every organization has different requirements as far as hours spent toward community service, and philanthropy. But in the end we always put in way more time than required of us because we just love to help that much.”
