Opinion: It’s a prime time for media
The media world has been recently dominated by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s indiscretions, the Major League Baseball pennant race, singer Janet Jackson’s pregnancy and the Kardashian family Paris robbery that is currently spinning off its axis.
So seldom are there so many stories to touch upon at one time, but here we are. Whether it be politics, entertainment or sports, there is something intriguing out there for anybody right now.
Let’s start with the hot button subject that has all major news outlets chatting: the Trump tape that was released over the weekend.
More specifically, the recent tapes released of the presidential candidate having a lewd, vulgar, sexual conversation with now-suspended NBC television host Billy Bush more than 10 years ago about their experiences with women on the set of “Access Hollywood.”
When asked about his comments during the debates on Sunday, Trump adamantly defended his comments as “locker room talk” — suggesting that athletes around the world say a lot worse things about women in their respective locker rooms.
Since Sunday, popular faces like LeBron James, LA Clippers coach Doc Rivers and Atlanta Falcons player Jacob Tamme have spoken out against Trump’s empty defense, insisting that they have been around top-tier athletes their whole lives and have never heard anyone speaking to the degree of debauchery that Trump displayed.
Speaking of athletes: as the Trump circus peaks, so does the race to the pennant. The MLB playoffs are in full swing.
There are five teams left in the playoff chase: the Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, the LA Dodgers and the Washington Nationals. The Cubs haven’t won the World Series in 107 seasons, while the Tribe is looking for their first World Series championship since 1948. It’s been a long time coming for these two teams and their loyal fan bases, so the contests will grip the entire league.
It’s also worth noting that out of all the teams still playing, the last team of the group to win a World Series is the Blue Jays, a franchise that hasn’t won the Commissioner’s Trophy in over 23 seasons. It will be great to see which drought is broken by the month’s end.
And speaking of broken, let’s speak on the fuzzy details of reality television star Kim Kardashian and the recent Paris heist that is dominating the tabloids. The alleged story goes as such: Everybody that she was on vacation with was away enjoying the Tour of Pablo Kanye West concert while the alleged heist occurred that night.
Reportedly, her private security was nowhere to be found during the entirety of the incident, but Kardashian had posted on social media numerous times leading up to the robbery that she had a diamond ring worth approximately $4 million in her possession while in Paris. For reasons unbeknownst to us, she she opted against securing the diamond ring in a security deposit box at the Hôtel de Pourtalès in Paris.
The rest is media history: the jewel thieves reportedly walked away with $9 million in jewels, and now Kardashian is suing MediaTakeOut for their reporting of the incident.
Last but not least in today’s media world is 50-year-old singer, dancer and actor Jackson’s pregnancy announcement. The famous Jackson sister, best known for her singing and dancing, announced her pregnancy on Wednesday. She stated in her reveal that she is happy, healthy and glowing at the idea of being a mother.
The beautiful, talented Jackson’s career has spanned three decades, so it’s only right that she settles down with her first child.
Jackson’s pregnancy is the cherry on top of what has been a chaotic several weeks in the news. If you need caught up, I hope this helped.
If you’re still behind, don’t worry — the media will have you covered.
